Many scientists agree that ancient people used astronomical symbols for worship of heavenly deities, the Sun, the Moon. According to the data, the image of a crescent and star represented the goddess Tanit in Ancient Carthage. Ancient Greeks pointed to the beauty of the goddess Diana with the help of this sign. Ancient Byzantium which later outgrew to Constantinople and then to Istanbul, had a crescent symbol.
It is interesting that domes of orthodox churches were decorated with a crescent and a star. Archeologists have pleased a scientific world with a surprising finding. They have found a star and a crescent in Mesopotamia on the stele of the Sumer tsar. The sign dated back to the 22nd century B.C. At the beginning of the second millennium in Ancient India and the countries of Central Asia the star symbol decorated Chashtana’s coins.

The star and the crescent came to Islam in 1299. Ottoman, the sultan of a small state in Asia Minor saw this sign in his dream. He accepted this dream as a prophecy and made the star with crescent a symbol of the dynasty. And as it was proved, Ottoman’s descendants created a superstate and became the most great governors of the Muslim world.
