What about that pocket on your backpack that was ruined during the last vacation trip? You can fix it with an embroidery patch Zipper and eye. Yep, this design can easily be turned into a patch and applied onto literally anything. Wondering how it can be done? Read on, we’ve got you covered on how to turn Machine Embroidery Design Zipper and eye into a patch. First you’ll need to get your supplies ready. The list of the things includes:

~ Machine Embroidery Design Zipper and Eye,

~ Embroidery threads. Any brand and type will do. As this particular patch will be used on a backpack, an item exposed to the elements and all, we opt for polyester threads. Polyester will keep its colors better than other threads.

~ Needles. (Their type will depend on the type of the threads that you choose).

Tip: Start each new project with a fresh needle. The end result will be sharper and crispier.

~Stabilizers. Medium tear away.

~Fabric for the basis of the patch. The fabric should be sturdy and non-stretchy. Canvas is a good choice for the cause. The fabric piece should fit into your hoop.

~Temporary spray adhesive, scissors.

~Sewing threads – if you want to sew the patch on the item. Otherwise, use non-sew adhesive: fusible web (Thermoweb Heat’N Bond Ultra Hold iron-on, Badge Magic Cut to fit Freestyle Patch Adhesive Kit by Rothco) or textile glue (Beacon 12PA1 Patch Attach, Aleene Super Fabric Adhesive).

~The item for the patch to be put on.

~If you’ll be working with a fusible web, then you’ll also need an iron.

Have you gathered all up? Ok, let’s start making our zipper and eye patch.

1 – Adhere the tear-away stabilizer to your fabric.

2 – Hoop the stabilizer-fabric sandwich.

3 – Embroider.

4 – After the embroidery process is through, clean up the loose thread ends. Now you’ll also need to remove the excess stabilizer. Mind that you’ll need to remove it very well, otherwise the random bits would show around the patch.

5 – Cut the excess fabric around the embroidered design. Don’t cut to close the edges. Work around the pattern, leaving about an inch “border”.

6 – Attach the adhesion layer to the patch. Depending on how you want to further work with zipper and eye patch. If you’ll be using it with the items that couldn’t be pressed (synthetic textiles), then you’ll either sew or glue the patch on. Otherwise, attach the fusible web onto the back side of the patch. Always read the instructions, provided by each manufacturer.

7 – Now (with the fusible web on or not) you have an almost ready-to-be-used zipper and eye patch. What you need to do next is to cut the excess fabric border around it. As Machine Embroidery Design Zipper and Eye has quite a solid, blocky shape, you won’t have any problems cutting around it.

Now you’ve got a perfectly fine zipper and eye patch to embellish, mend or otherwise improve anything that you want. It can be used on bags, jackets, jeans and more.
