Riding PEGASUS, the hero was able to fly up to a terrible fire-breathing Chimera.

However, the proud young man was not satisfied with his heroic deed and decided to get to Olympus and take a place among the gods. Angered by such incredible arrogance, crafty Zeus sent a bee to meet Bellerophon on his way up, which did not touch the man, but stung his steed. Mad with pain, PEGASUS threw off his rider, but managed to fly to the top of the mountain. Thus he got the right to visit Olympus and began to deliver thunder and lightning for Zeus.

In the realm of men PEGASUS lived on mount Helicon. In the grove on the slopes of the mountain the frisky stallion struck his hoof on the stone, and a source with clean and delicious water opened on that very spot. It was called Hippocrene, a “horse spring”, and in those days it quenched the thirst of the Muses and gave them strength and energy. Later it became a household name and an inspiring symbol for poets seeking ideas for their work.
