The glorious day of the Resurrection of Christ is considered the most important in Christian countries. It is accompanied by great joy and celebrated by millions of people. Every nation has their Easter traditions. For instance, in Western Europe and North America there is a belief about the EASTER RABBIT, which brings colored eggs and hide them in the nest. If you find the rabbit’s egg, you will have a wealthy, happy year.
The fact that a hare brings eggs sounds pretty weird to other cultures. After all, it is nor a chicken neither a duck, why was it chosen to play the role of an Easter hen? It turns out that in times of paganism in Germany the goddess Ostara was highly respected by people. She was responsible for the arrival of spring and fertility. A celebration in her honor was the day of the vernal equinox, and her emblem was a prolific rabbit. After conversion to Christianity, the Germans took the familiar animal as an Easter symbol. Besides, an ordinary chicken couldn’t bring such wonderful painted eggs. But the magic Bunny might do it easily! So the EASTER RABBIT, “Osterhase”, became one of the most beloved children’s characters, first in Europe and then in America, where this tradition was brought by immigrants.
