She fell for the son of the king of Cyprus – gorgeous Adonis, even though he was a mortal. For the sake of the beloved goddess descended to earth. She lived with him side by side, preserved against troubles and misfortunes. But Aphrodite couldn’t be around all the time: divine business occasionally forced her to return to Olympus.

One day, during the absence of the goddess, brave but reckless Adonis went hunting. Unfortunately, he was struck by an enraged boar. After learning about what happened, Aphrodite rushed to the aid. She hoped that divine nectar would revive her love. But it was too late, and it was impossible to save the young man. Bitter tears rolled from the eyes of the goddess, and where they fell to the ground, delicate anemones grown.
