Husqvarna Hoop Sizes

Formats: VP3/VIP/HUS/DST/SHV

Before we actually speak about Husqvarna hoop sizes and formats for embroidery, let’s speak about the topic in general.

Bigger is not always better

Experienced embroiderers like to say that there can’t be too many hoops in one’s collection. Why so? Well, because better results come from the closest possible match between sizes of the hoops and designs. Why? The thing is in the tension that fabric gets while being hooped. As the needle puts much pressure on the hooped fabric while stitching, the center of the to-be-embroidered area will be more vulnerable to stretching. So, though it’s totally possible to embroidery small designs in large hoops, if perfection is your wish, use more compatible analogues.

Another thing with the size of hoops is that each embroidery machine can work only with the hoop sizes that are preset in its “brain”. It means that you can’t go and adjust just any hoop to your machine and expect it to stitch on. Not all machines are programmed to recognized and work with all sizes. This seeming inconvenience has to do with the “sewing field” limitation of each particular embroidery machine. In simple words it’s like protection for the hardware, installed by manufacturers. If there were no such thing and by mistake you put the wrong hoop, the needle could brake against its frame, causing other problems too. That is why it’s important to learn compatibility of your embroidery machine with hoops of different sizes.

Before getting a new machine embroidery design you must check your machine’s sewing field capacity. If, say, the design is larger than your machine can “handle”, it could fail to stitch it correctly or not recognize it at all. Some manufactures (and Husqvarna is one of them) offer upgradable software to some of their models. This means that an upgrade might “expand” the capacity of the embroidery machine to recognize and work with hoops of other sizes. So keep an eye on the updates, provided by manufacturers through their dealers or on their official sites.

Machine embroidery formats

Now that we have covered all the important info on hoops, let’s continue with the formats. The name “formats of machine embroidery” is pretty explanatory itself, so we don’t think anyone has any problems with figuring it out. But just in case… Format of machine embroidery design (file) is the “language” in which this design is “written”. Usually embroidery machines cannot read all formats, but only those, which are listed in their manuals (so read manuals).

There’re programs, which could convert an embroidery file from the “unreadable” format to the “readable” one. However it’s more advisable to buy and upload designs/files, with the correct format from the beginning.

Which formats do Husqvarna machines read?

Husqvarna sewing/embroidery machine read the following embroidery formats:

VP3 – Husqvarna Viking/Pfaff

VIP – Husqvarna Viking/Pfaff

HUS – Husqvarna Viking

DST – Tajima

SHV – Viking Designer 1

Now let’s talk about hoop sizes for some of the most popular Husqvarna embroidery machines. Brilliant innovations, sparkling designs – with these words Husqvarna introduces its “precious” creations from the “jewel” series. And the hoop range in this series is really fascinating. Depending on each particular embroidery machine one can find in its features hoop sizes from 1 x 1 inches (40 x 40 mm) to 14 x 13 ¾ inches (360 x350 mm)! Such wide range of hoop sizes shows the diversity of embroidery projects, which these machines can do! Anyway, let’s see some models in particular:
