The traditions and beliefs of the wise Celtic people, rituals of the Catholic faith, as well as a lot of positive, fun and joy – all these the modern celebration of Halloween combines. The holiday of Halloween, or as it is called the All Saints’ Day, has not only deep roots, but also an interesting history.
If we return to the origins, we can safely say that Halloween originated in the heyday of Celtic culture on the lands of modern Britain and France. This people believed that on the 1st of October a portal to the other world opens. As a result, evil spirits rise to the earth. On this day, the Celtic people lit fires to propitiate the evil “guests.” No less important was the rite of “sacrifice.”

With the greatest scope, Halloween is celebrated in the USA and Canada. Residents of these countries celebrate this holiday for two centuries. Despite this, it is not considered official.
In the other world countries, Halloween began to spread only in the late 20th century. Now it has become widely known and ingrained in the lives of many people.

Asking for sweets – Trick-or-Treating first appeared in Scotland. And it was called Guising. In the UK, there was the tradition of Souling. It was asking of poor people and children to eat, in exchange for prayer. Soon these two traditions merged together, and called in the playful form of Trick-or-Treat.
The tradition of decorating a house on the Eve of All Saints also appeared not so long ago. The main attributes of the decor for Halloween are pumpkin jack, cobwebs, skulls, skeletons, and candles.
