Let me introduce myself – my name is Lyudmila, and I'm the chief designer of Royal Present Embroidery. 

I've always been interested in creating things that are new and different. When I started making embroidery designs, I was excited to try new techniques for designing stitches and shadows. I quickly realized that traditional methods didn't always work well for the type of designs I wanted to make. So, I came up with my technique for making designs. This new technique allowed me to create more realistic and believable shadows. As a result, my designs had a more polished look and feel. I'm always happy when I can find new ways to improve my work. It's one of the things that keeps me motivated and excited about what I do:)

Today, I want to talk about dinosaurs. Some people think they're just big, scary beasts, but I believe there's more to them than that. For example, did you know that many dinosaurs had feathers? And some scientists believe that they may have even been able to fly! Isn't that amazing?

Of course, we don't know everything about dinosaurs – after all, they lived millions of years ago, and there's no way to travel back in time to study them directly. But every day, we learn more and more about these fascinating creatures. So even though they're gone, we can still share their wonder and excitement.

Dinosaurs have always been a source of fascination for humans, thanks to their enormous size and robust skulls. But what can we say about them? We know that they were different in size and appearance. Some dinosaurs were considerable, while others were tiny. And some of them had long necks, while others had short claws. But one thing is for sure: they were all impressive creatures! Even though we'll never be able to see them in person, we can still learn about them and imagine what it would have been like to live in a world with dinosaurs.

While designing my first dinosaur (Tyrannosaurus Rex Machine Embroidery Design - 7 sizes), I looked at what other dinosaur designs were on the market. And I was disappointed in how unrealistically these dinosaurs were made. I wanted to design a more accurate dinosaur to its real-life counterpart. I did my research and looked at fossil evidence and modern-day animals to help inform my design. I wanted my dinosaur to be both realistic and menacing. Ultimately, I think I succeeded in creating an accurate and intimidating layout.

Tools for Digitizing Embroidery Designs

If you've ever been to a museum and seen a dinosaur fossil up close, you may have noticed that the skin is covered in tiny bumps. These bumps are the outlines of the scales that once covered the dinosaur's body. And if you've ever tried to create an embroidery design of a dinosaur using standard digitization tools, you know that capturing these tiny details is nearly impossible. 

Severe digital artists do not use default skin settings in most design programs. For this need to manually the textures of the skin to create the perfect look for the characters. Thankfully, there are plenty of ways to do this. I find the ideal way to represent skin in my artwork with some experimentation.

Now let's talk about shadows. I have not found a single example of ready-made designs for machine embroidery in which at least someone would apply hand-drawn shadows. I could not understand how it was possible to achieve a natural look of the embroidery for a long time until I learned this method. For those who still doubt: shadows in hand-drawn form look more natural than ready-made. The main thing is that the light falls on the object from different sides, and thanks to the shadows, we see volume. We perceive the world around us precisely because of different shades of grey. Therefore, I create a realistic embroidery design when digitising design by hand. This method is called hatching. And only then do I add all the details that were not originally in the sketch. Of course, it takes more time to digitise this way, but the result is worth it! After all, there's nothing quite like the look of a hand-drawn shadow, and it's a surefire way to add some extra depth and dimension to your work.

One of the essential elements of embroidery is glare. Glare, or reflexes, are an essential part of embroidery digitizing. Adding glare to the design gives the embroidery a realistic look. The light that hits the skin makes it natural and beautiful. For example, the glare of light on the skin of a dinosaur, combined with shadows, makes this animal truly beautiful and practical. It's as if you are looking at a real dinosaur! 

I'm thinking of continuing to digitize dinosaurs in the future as my customers love them so much, especially boys whose grandmothers embroider these ferocious animals on jackets and sofa cushions. The stitch files for dinosaurs are some of my most popular, and I always get requests for new designs. I think I can digitize other realistic prehistoric animals like woolly mammoths and sabre-toothed tigers.

I enjoy digitizing dinosaurs. Every time I create a new design, I learn something new about them. And I love seeing the look on my customers' faces when they receive their finished embroidery project - it's like they've been transported back in time!
