Infinity Geometric Quilt Block Machine Embroidery Design is a square, full-fill motif built from precise radial geometry. Contrasting bands converge toward the center, while repeated and rotated blocks create diamonds, stepped lines and an optical pattern that appears to continue beyond each square.

The structure is best described as modern geometric abstraction with an op-art effect. Its black, yellow-gold and warm neutral palette also gives it an Art Deco mood, but the motif is not a reproduction of a historical Art Deco ornament. Use one block as a bold 4x4 accent, or repeat it for a patchwork cushion cover, quilted textile panel or wall hanging.

Design Size, Stitch Count and Hoop Fit

Important for a 4x4 hoop: the design fits a true 100 × 100 mm sewing field with very little clearance. Only 0.8 mm remains across each axis, or approximately 0.4 mm on each side when the design is perfectly centered. Open the correct machine format and trace the design boundary before stitching. Check the machine's actual embroidery field, not only the commercial hoop name.

How to Build a Pillow or Quilt from Repeated Blocks

One embroidered square works as a modular unit. Repeat it without resizing and rotate neighboring blocks by 90° or 180° to change the direction of the bands. The same file can produce different large-scale layouts, including diamonds, zigzags, stepped paths and a continuous labyrinth effect.

Five blocks across and five blocks down produce 496 × 496 mm (19.53 × 19.53 inches) of embroidery, not an exact 500 × 500 mm or 20 × 20 inch square. A narrow border, piping or the construction of the pillow cover can bring the finished project to the desired dimensions. Do not enlarge this dense file merely to gain the missing few millimeters.

Method 1: Embroider Individual 4x4 Blocks and Join Them Like Patchwork

1. Cut equal fabric blanks with working room around the embroidery. For a 99.2 mm motif, a starting square of at least 120 × 120 mm (4.72 × 4.72 inches) is practical.
2. Mark the center, lengthwise grain and crosswise grain on every blank.
3. Use the same fabric, stabilizer, needle, speed and tension for every block.
4. After embroidery, square each piece to the stitched motif and add an identical seam allowance outside the embroidery.
5. Join the blocks into rows first, then join the rows. Match the centers and the direction of the colored bands at every seam.
6. Add the pillow back, zipper, envelope closure, border or binding according to your chosen sewing method.

Do not trim all blanks to their final size before embroidery. Dense fill stitches can slightly alter the fabric geometry, so it is safer to square every block after stitching, using the same template and seam allowance.

Method 2: Combine Copies for a Professional Embroidery Machine

Embroidery software can arrange 25 copies as a 5 × 5 matrix. With no gaps, the combined design measures 496 × 496 mm (19.53 × 19.53 inches) and contains approximately 594,825 stitches. This requires a real sewing field at least that large, a machine and file format able to handle the stitch count, and stable hooping of the entire panel.

A nominal 500 × 500 mm field leaves only 4 mm of total clearance on each axis, or 2 mm per side. Before transferring the combined file, verify the final dimensions, stitch limit, travel paths and color sequence. Apply color sorting only after watching the stitch simulation; it must not disrupt the intended overlaps within each block.

Madeira Classic Rayon 40 Color Sequence

The design worksheet lists four Madeira Classic colors and three thread changes. Screen colors and descriptive shade names are approximate; use the thread numbers as the primary reference and adjust the palette to suit your fabric.

You may replace the colors to match your interior, but keep the same palette and thread sequence across all repeated blocks. For a cushion cover or quilt that will be washed, use threads from one product line and test-wash a sample first; rayon, polyester and metallic threads differ in sheen and care requirements.

Fabric, Stabilizer, Needle and Machine Speed

• Fabric: tightly woven cotton, linen or stable home-decor fabric. Stretch knit is not suitable for precise block assembly.
• Stabilizer: use a soft medium-weight cutaway stabilizer for dependable support under the dense fill. Test a low-bulk cutaway or no-show mesh if many blocks will meet in one project.
• Hooping: hoop the fabric and stabilizer together, keeping the fabric grain square to the hoop. Do not stretch or distort the fabric.
• Needle: begin with a new 75/11 embroidery needle for 40-weight thread. Test the needle size if using heavy home-decor fabric.
• Speed: begin around 500–650 stitches per minute. Reduce speed if loops, puckering or color misalignment appear along the long fill boundaries.

Each block contains 23,793 stitches, so a small stabilization or alignment error will repeat throughout a multi-block layout. Stitch one complete sample first, remove it from the hoop, let it rest, measure it and only then prepare the remaining blanks.
