Emerald Flower Machine Embroidery Design is a downloadable upright floral spray featuring one large layered violet flower, two smaller blossoms, curved turquoise-green stems, pointed leaves and ornamental spiral shoots. Madeira Classic color sequence

The supplied color chart lists seven Madeira Classic thread numbers. Three colors are used again during later stages, creating ten sequential embroidery blocks. The descriptions identify which elements are stitched during each block.

Madeira Classic 1311, 1093 and 1248 are used in separate stages. Do not combine or rearrange the color blocks even when the same thread appears more than once.

Required 5x7 embroidery hoop

The design measures 129.2x135.3 mm and fits a machine with a usable embroidery field of at least 130x180 mm, commonly called a 5x7 hoop. Because the width is close to the 130 mm limit, confirm the exact usable field supported by your machine before purchasing.

The design does not fit a 100x100 mm or 4x4 hoop. It also does not fit a 100x170 mm embroidery field because its width is 129.2 mm.

What to embroider with this floral design

• place the flower vertically on a linen guest towel or decorative hand towel;
• embroider it near the end of a table runner;
• use it as the central decoration on a large napkin or placemat;
• place it on a decorative pillow front or textile panel;
• decorate the front or back of a blouse, tunic or dress;
• add the motif to a skirt panel, fabric tote bag or cosmetic bag.

The design is approximately 13.5 cm high and is intended to be a visible decorative accent. It is too large for small handkerchief corners, narrow cuffs and other compact 4x4 projects.

Fabric, stabilizer and thread

Medium-weight linen, cotton, twill and gabardine provide a stable foundation for the layered satin stitches. For frequently washed towels and table linens, polyester embroidery thread is practical. Use 40-weight rayon or viscose thread when you want a softer sheen and a richer jewel-like finish.

For stable woven fabric, use a medium-weight tear-away stabilizer. Its approximate minimum weight can be calculated with this formula:

Fabric weight ÷ 3 = minimum stabilizer weight

For example, fabric weighing 160 g/m² or approximately 4.72 oz/yd² requires stabilizer weighing about 53 g/m² or 1.57 oz/yd². Apply temporary embroidery adhesive to the stabilizer, attach the fabric and hoop both layers together without stretching.

Use a medium-weight cut-away stabilizer for garments, soft furnishing fabrics and materials that stretch or require permanent support. When embroidering on terry cloth, velvet or textured fabric, add a lightweight water-soluble topping so that the stitches remain above the surface.

A 75/11 or 80/12 embroidery needle is suitable for most medium-weight woven fabrics. Test the complete design on the same fabric, thread and stabilizer combination before embroidering the final item. Read more in Perfecting Stitch Density, Fabric and Stabilizer Balance.
