Poppy was well known to our ancestors. The Cairo Museum has self-seeded poppy flowers that are several thousand years old. It is believed that even then, this plant was used as a medicinal plant. This and other types of poppy became the raw material for the manufacture of sleeping pills. By the way, the earliest mention of the poppy is dated 3000 BC. e., It was discovered among the ancient Sumerians: their tables mention a flower that looks like a poppy, which they call the "plant of happiness." It is interesting to note that in those days, the Sumerians cultivated two types of poppy: one with round seeds, from which they made oil, and the other with extended thin sources, from which flour was obtained. Both products were considered valuable and were used in various ceremonies. For example, flour was sprinkled on newlyweds' heads, and oil was used to anoint babies during their naming ceremony.
