Print the placement template at 100% scale before hooping. Center the complete composition by the branch and the open cape rather than by the owl’s body alone, so the embroidery does not look offset on a pocket, tote bag or sweatshirt front.

Do not merge repeated thread numbers with automatic color sorting. Returning to the same colors is necessary for the correct layering of the branch, owl, cape, bow tie, crescent moon, stars and bat.

Stabilizer Guide for Different Fabrics

Firm cotton, linen, gabardine, canvas and bag fabric. Use a medium-weight tear-away stabilizer such as Madeira Cotton Soft 9436 or Aurora 55 g/m² non-fusible tear-away. Hoop the fabric and stabilizer together without pulling the fabric out of shape.

Sweatshirt fleece, knit fabric and children’s sweatshirts. Leave a soft cut-away stabilizer under the dense fill: Aurora CS1080 Cutaway Soft 80 g/m² or Madeira Super Strong 9445 white / 9446 black. It supports the embroidery through wear and washing; do not stretch the knit while hooping.

Finished bags, pockets, backpacks and items that cannot be hooped. Madeira Cotton Fix 9439 is a self-adhesive tear-away stabilizer with a paper backing. Hoop it alone with the paper side up, expose the adhesive area and secure the item on top without stretching. Gunold Filmoplast is a comparable option. On stretch knits, use Cotton Fix for positioning and add a soft cut-away stabilizer beneath the dense embroidery.

Fleece, velour and terry cloth. Add a thin water-soluble film on top, such as Madeira Avalon Film, Gunold Solvy Film or Aurora 30 μm. It prevents the pile from covering the eyes, eyelashes, bow tie edges and small stars.
