Madeira Classic Thread Colors and Embroidery Sequence

1. Madeira Classic 1146 — red. Embroiders the words HAPPY Father’s.
2. Madeira Classic 1007 — black. Embroiders the decorative mustache.
3. Madeira Classic 1146 — red. Embroiders the word DAY.

The design contains two thread colors programmed in three consecutive embroidery segments. Madeira Classic 1146 is used twice, so the red thread does not need to be changed before the final segment.

The original red-and-black combination provides strong contrast on white, natural, beige and light gray fabric. You can replace the colors to coordinate the embroidery with the selected garment or gift.

Hoop Sizes and Embroidery Fields

• 99.2x77.8 mm — fits a true 100x100 mm or 4x4-inch embroidery field;
• 118.8x93.4 mm — requires an embroidery field of at least 120x100 mm and fits within a 130x180 mm field when positioned correctly;
• 109.6x139.2 mm — requires an embroidery field of at least 110x140 mm and fits a 130x180 mm field;
• 197.8x155.6 mm — requires an embroidery field of at least 200x160 mm and fits a true 200x200 mm field.

The smallest file measures 99.2 mm across, leaving only 0.8 mm of total clearance in a 100 mm-wide embroidery field. Check the exact usable field of your machine before purchasing or transferring the design.

The largest file does not fit a 180x300 mm field because its width is 197.8 mm. Rotating the file does not solve this limitation.

Embroidery Formats and Machine Compatibility

• PES and PEC: commonly used by Brother and Baby Lock machines;
• JEF and SEW: commonly used by Janome, Elna and some older Kenmore machines;
• VP3, VIP and HUS: used by many Husqvarna Viking and Pfaff models;
• EXP: used by some Bernina and Melco systems;

How to Embroider the Father’s Day Design

1. Prewash the item if the fabric may shrink during future washing.
2. Select the stabilizer. Use medium-weight tear-away stabilizer for stable woven cotton. Use cut-away stabilizer for T-shirts, sweatshirts, knitwear and stretchy fabric.
3. Apply temporary spray adhesive to the stabilizer and attach it smoothly to the wrong side of the fabric.
4. Hoop the fabric and stabilizer together whenever the construction of the item allows it. Keep the material smooth without stretching it.
5. Use a suitable needle. Begin with an embroidery needle size 75/11. Use a ballpoint embroidery needle for knitted fabric.
6. Embroider with No. 40 thread. Quality polyester or rayon machine embroidery thread is suitable.
7. Complete a test stitch using the same fabric, stabilizer, needle and thread planned for the final gift.

Stabilizer Weight for Woven Fabric

For stable woven cotton, linen or apron fabric, a practical starting point is:

fabric weight ÷ 3 = approximate stabilizer weight

For example, fabric weighing 180 g/m², or approximately 5.31 oz/yd², may require stabilizer weighing about 60 g/m², or 1.77 oz/yd².

This formula is an initial estimate rather than a universal rule. Stretchy, loose or lightweight fabric may require permanent cut-away support regardless of its weight.

How many thread colors are used?

The design uses two Madeira Classic colors: 1146 red and 1007 black. It contains three embroidered segments because red is used before and after the black mustache.

Can I change the words or add a name?

The lettering is part of the embroidery design and is not supplied as an editable font. Adding a name or changing the text requires embroidery digitizing software and is not included with the download.

Can I embroider the complete design in one color?

Yes. Use the same upper thread for all three programmed sections. The machine may still stop at the programmed color changes, but the thread does not need to be replaced.

Is the physical embroidered product included?
