Free Tic-Tac-Toe with Hearts Machine Embroidery Design is a playful romantic composition featuring a classic three-by-three grid, X and O symbols, hearts and a diagonal arrow. Use it on tea towels, napkins, baby blankets, pillows, tote bags, framed pictures and handmade gifts for Valentine’s Day, weddings, anniversaries or couples.
This is a one-color embroidery motif, so the complete composition can be stitched in red, pink, burgundy, black, gold or another thread color that contrasts with the fabric. It is a fixed decorative image rather than a playable fabric game with removable pieces.
This product contains a machine embroidery file for an embroidery machine. A finished towel, napkin, blanket, picture, patch or other physical product is not included.

The design is inspired by the familiar Tic-Tac-Toe or noughts-and-crosses game. The grid contains stitched X and O symbols, while several spaces are replaced by hearts. A diagonal arrow passes through the composition and reinforces the romantic theme.
All symbols are part of one finished embroidery composition. The design does not include separate movable X and O pieces and is not intended to function as an interactive game board.
The design measures 97.5x97.2 mm, so it is within a nominal 100x100 mm or 4x4 inch embroidery field. However, it is close to the hoop boundary on both sides.
Check the exact usable embroidery field of your machine before transferring the file. Some machines described as having a 4x4 hoop do not stitch the entire 100x100 mm area.
On a flat cotton or linen tea towel, place the design above the lower border and away from thick hems or permanent fold lines. Medium tear-away stabilizer is usually suitable for stable woven fabric.
For waffle, terry or textured towels, use stabilizer underneath and water-soluble topping over the fabric. The topping keeps the narrow grid lines, X and O symbols, hearts and arrow above the textured surface.
The nearly square composition works well in one corner of a dinner napkin. Leave equal space between the design and both finished edges so the grid appears level rather than tilted toward one side.
Before hooping, print or trace a full-size placement template. Check how the embroidery will appear when the napkin is folded for the table setting.
For a woven cotton blanket, use stabilizer that supports the stitches without making the finished area unnecessarily stiff. For fleece, minky or another fabric with a raised surface, add water-soluble topping.
If the embroidered area may touch a baby’s skin, trim the backing carefully and cover the finished reverse side with a soft embroidery protection layer.
Red or pink thread creates a traditional Valentine result. Burgundy, dusty rose and muted red work well for a vintage romantic style. Black creates a graphic game-board appearance, while gold or silver can suit wedding and anniversary gifts.
Because this is a one-color composition, changing the thread color does not require editing the embroidery file. Select a color with enough contrast to keep the thin grid and heart outlines visible.
Mark the vertical and horizontal center lines before hooping. Keep the fabric grain straight and avoid pulling one side of the fabric tighter than the other. Even slight distortion is visible in a geometric grid.
Use stabilizer larger than the hoop opening and support the project while the machine stitches. Test the design first if the fabric is soft, loosely woven, textured or stretchy.
