Christmas Goat Machine Embroidery Design features a cheerful goat in a Santa hat and festive outfit, standing on a green base with a red bow. Use it for Christmas and New Year textiles, Lunar New Year projects and personal gifts for people born in the Year of the Goat.

Good placements include children’s hoodies and sweatshirts, Christmas stocking fronts, gift bags, drawstring gift sacks, cushion panels and holiday wall hangings. For a small stocking or bag, stitch the flat front panel before assembly and confirm that it provides at least 118.2x168.8 mm of clear embroidery space.

Suitable Hoops and Embroidery Fields

Smallest suitable standard field: 130x180 mm, commonly called a 5x7 in hoop. Brother officially identifies its 130x180 mm embroidery area as 5x7 in.

Next larger compatible field: 140x200 mm (5.5x7.9 in), such as the Janome RE20b. The larger field is useful when combining the goat with a short name or birth year. Check the complete combined layout in software; adding lettering does not change the original file size.

Do not rely only on a hoop’s marketing name. The machine must accept a portrait design at least 118.2 mm wide and 168.8 mm high inside its actual usable embroidery field.

Year of the Goat: Last, Current and Next

Recent Goat years include 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003, 2015 and 2027. The last was 2015; the current Chinese zodiac year in 2026 is the Year of the Horse, not the Goat; the next is 2027.

  • Last Goat year: February 19, 2015–February 7, 2016.
  • Current year: Fire Horse, February 17, 2026–February 5, 2027.
  • Next Goat year: Fire Goat, February 6, 2027–January 25, 2028.

The Chinese zodiac follows the lunar calendar, not January 1. For a person born in January or early February, check the exact Lunar New Year date before personalizing the gift. Goat, Sheep and Ram are common English translations of the same zodiac sign; this artwork specifically depicts a goat.

Original Madeira Classic Rayon Color Sequence

The RPE-814 chart contains 10 programmed blocks, 9 unique colors and 9 color changes. Color numbers were checked against the official Madeira Classic shade card; English color names were checked on official Madeira USA product pages. The squares for current shades were calculated from the central thread area of the official cone photographs.

Color Madeira Classic Rayon No. 40 What this block stitches
1049 Lime Green Block 1 — green ground beneath the goat
1146 Tomato Red Block 2 — hat stripes, festive outfit and bow
1135 Baby Chick Yellow Block 3 — curled horns and visible front hoof/hand
1288 Shark Gray Block 4 — dark hoof shading
1166 Hanukkah Blue Block 5 — eye detail
1004 Natural White Block 6 — hat trim, pom-pom, white fur and hoof highlights
1267 Light Yellow — legacy shade Block 7 — face, ears, tail and light body details
1020 Bright Peach Block 8 — tongue and small face accent
1288 Shark Gray — repeated Block 9 — nose, muzzle and final gray shadows
1007 Amber Black Block 10 — outlines, facial details and garment linework

Best Textile Uses

  • Children’s textiles: hoodies, sweatshirts, outerwear panels, blankets, cushion covers and festive nursery decor. Avoid placing the dense reverse directly against a baby’s skin.
  • Christmas and New Year: sweater fronts, stocking panels, table runners, cushion panels, wall hangings and reusable gift wrap.
  • Gift bags: stitch on the flat front before sewing the side seams; keep drawstrings, folds and boxed corners outside the hoop.
  • Personal Year of the Goat gift: add a name, initials or a verified Goat birth year in a 140x200 mm field or larger, leaving clear space around the original design.

Fabric, Stabilizer and Stitching

For hoodies, sweatshirts and other knits, use medium cut-away or no-show mesh stabilizer; do not rely on tear-away alone. For cotton gift bags and stocking panels, use firm tear-away on stable woven fabric or cut-away on soft fabric. Add water-soluble topping over fleece, terry or brushed fabric so the stitches do not sink into the surface.

Use a fresh 75/11 embroidery needle and test the complete design on the same fabric and stabilizer. On stretchy knitwear, do not pull the fabric in the hoop. For children’s clothing that will be washed frequently, a tested polyester equivalent may be more practical than rayon, but the original chart remains Madeira Classic Rayon.

Personalization Placement

The 130x180 mm field fits the goat itself but leaves little room for lettering. Use 140x200 mm or a larger hoop for a short name or year, position the text above or below the goat, and preview the combined dimensions before stitching. For a person born in January or early February, verify the lunar-year boundary before adding a zodiac year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the design fit a 5x7 hoop?

Yes. The file is 118.2x168.8 mm and fits a true 130x180 mm embroidery field, commonly called 5x7 in.

Can I use a 140x200 mm hoop?

Yes. A 140x200 mm field is larger than required and gives more placement room. It is the better choice when adding a short name or birth year.

Is 2026 a Year of the Goat?

No. The Chinese zodiac year beginning February 17, 2026 is the Year of the Horse. The next Year of the Goat begins February 6, 2027.

Can I embroider it on a small gift stocking?

Yes, only if the flat stocking front provides at least 118.2x168.8 mm plus safe margins. Embroider the panel before assembly so the presser foot and hoop do not catch the stocking seams.

Why does Madeira 1288 appear twice?

The design uses nine unique colors but ten programmed blocks. Shark Gray 1288 stitches the hoof shading in block 4 and returns for the nose, muzzle and final gray shadows in block 9.
