Create a coordinated royal textile collection with two different ornaments instead of repeating one motif everywhere. The Royal Damask Crown Ornaments set combines regal crown imagery with balanced damask scrollwork in two complementary compositions. One ornament is slightly fuller; the second is narrower and lighter, so paired towels, pillows or garment panels look related without appearing identical.

Each ornament is supplied in two professionally prepared sizes, giving you four design-size combinations in every listed machine format. The smaller versions are ideal for long 5x7 hoop fields, while the larger versions are designed for a 140x220 mm field. Stitch the motifs in antique gold for old-world warmth, bright metallic gold for ceremony, white-on-white for hotel-style restraint or silver for a cooler contemporary finish.

These elongated crown ornaments are especially effective across smooth towel bands, pillowcase borders, bed linens, robe cuffs, curtain panels and formal table textiles. The result is not a tiny decorative crown but a substantial royal accent with enough length to define the entire piece.

Hoop and Embroidery Field Requirements

Files Minimum usable field Common hoop class Clearance
76.0x178.0 mm
71.1x177.9 mm
130x180 mm 5x7 in 2.0–2.1 mm total length clearance
93.3x218.6 mm
87.2x218.6 mm
140x220 mm Approximately 5.5x8.6 in Only 1.4 mm total length clearance

Check the machine’s actual embroidery field, not only the hoop name. The 178 mm files sit very close to the limit of a 180 mm field. The 218.6 mm files leave only 1.4 mm of total clearance in a 220 mm field. Some machines reserve an internal safety margin and may reject a file even when its dimensions are technically below the nominal hoop size.

These designs do not fit a standard 100x100 mm (4x4 in) field. Rotating them does not solve the problem because their shortest sides measure 71.1–93.3 mm but their long sides remain 177.9–218.6 mm.

Thread Plan and Exact Gold Options

The currently published product data does not assign an official Madeira, Gunold or Sulky number to the design. The exact products below are therefore recommended visual options, not claimed matches to an unpublished source chart.

A single-tone treatment gives the motifs a strong heraldic silhouette. If the machine preview shows more than one programmed stop, keep the original stitch sequence and load the same thread at each stop rather than deleting blocks from the file.

Finish Exact thread Best fabric colors Result
Warm metallic gold Madeira FS Metallic No. 40, 985-4004 Gold 4 White, ivory, black, burgundy, navy Formal, reflective and unmistakably royal
Pale white gold Madeira FS Metallic No. 40, 985-4022 White Gold Cool white, dove gray, taupe, champagne Quieter luxury without a yellow-gold cast
Classic bright gold Gunold METY 40 (7/2), No. 7007 Gold White, emerald, red, black Bright ceremonial gold with clear sparkle
Muted old gold Gunold METY 40 (7/2), No. 7004 Dark Gold Natural linen, ivory, olive, chocolate Aged-gilt effect with less yellow brightness
Silky antique gold Sulky Rayon 40 No. 0523 Autumn Gold White, cream, linen, dusty blue Smooth rayon sheen and easier running than metallic thread

Madeira lists a No. 65/9 to 75/11 needle for FS Metallic No. 40. Begin with the thread manufacturer’s recommendation, slow the machine to approximately 500–600 stitches per minute and test before changing upper tension. Use a separate thread stand when it gives the metallic thread a smoother, less twisted path.

For understated hotel-style embroidery, use white rayon on white linen or a smooth white towel band. For high contrast, stitch the ornaments in black on ivory, silver on charcoal or gold on deep navy.

Exact Stabilizers for Each Fabric

Fabric or project Backing Topping Method
Linen, cotton or stable décor fabric Madeira Cotton Soft 50, 50 g/m² tear-away Not required Hoop the fabric and one layer together. Use two crossed layers on loosely woven linen.
Dense terry towel Madeira Cotton Soft 60, 60 g/m² tear-away Madeira Avalon, 20 μm water-soluble topping Cotton Soft supports the long ornament; Avalon keeps the crown and fine scrollwork above the terry loops.
Smooth towel band without pile Madeira Cotton Soft 50 or 60, selected for fabric weight Usually not required Center the design entirely inside the woven band and keep the stitches away from the thick hem.
Satin, poplin or fine stable woven fabric Madeira CMX Fusible, 48 g/m² fusible tear-away Not required on a smooth surface Fuse to the wrong side without stretching. The adhesive layer helps control shifting along the 178–219 mm motif.
Knit, stretch velour or elastic fabric Madeira Weblon Plus Fusible, 70 g/m² fusible cut-away Madeira Avalon on pile Leave the cut-away under the embroidery and trim to a smooth 5–8 mm margin. Use a 75/11 ballpoint embroidery needle.
Finished item that cannot be hooped Madeira StickOn, 50 g/m² self-adhesive tear-away Madeira Avalon for terry or pile Hoop StickOn alone, expose the adhesive, align the marked item and run a basting box before embroidery.

The stabilizer choice must follow the fabric, not the motif color. Cotton Soft 50 is intended for lightweight to medium non-stretch textiles; Cotton Soft 60 supports heavier non-stretch fabrics. Weblon Plus Fusible is a permanent cut-away for medium stretch textiles. Avalon is a topping, not a substitute for backing.

Best Projects for the Crown Ornament Set

  • two coordinated guest or hand towels with a different crown ornament on each smooth woven band;
  • matching pillowcases, a duvet cover, bed runner or decorative cushion pair;
  • curtain panels, tiebacks, pelmets and long upholstered textile panels;
  • robe cuffs, wide garment cuffs, jacket fronts, fabric belts and ceremonial clothing;
  • table runners, placemat borders, formal napkins and dining-room textiles;
  • hotel suites, bridal rooms, spas, beauty salons and luxury powder rooms;
  • anniversary, wedding, housewarming and royal-theme gifts.

For the strongest product photograph, place three rolled white terry towels on a pale marble surface. Show one ornament in warm metallic gold, the second in muted old gold and a third sample in white-on-white. Keep the embroidery entirely on a broad smooth woven towel border so the buyer immediately understands the scale, placement and finish.

How to Position a Long Crown Ornament

Print the template at 100% scale and mark both center axes on the textile. On a towel, rotate the ornament so its 177.9–218.6 mm length runs across the smooth woven band. Center the crown visually within the band, not merely within the complete towel width.

Keep the design away from bulky hems, seams and folded edges. When making a coordinated pair, use the same distance from the lower towel edge and the same crown height on both pieces. Run the machine’s boundary trace before stitching because all four files have limited clearance in their minimum listed fields.

Recommended Machine Settings

  1. Test the selected file on the same fabric, stabilizer, thread and needle planned for the final item.
  2. Hoop the fabric smoothly and firmly without stretching it; long narrow embroidery reveals even slight distortion.
  3. Use Rayon or Polyester No. 40 for the easiest standard setup.
  4. For Madeira FS Metallic No. 40, begin with the manufacturer’s 65/9–75/11 needle range and reduce speed to approximately 500–600 stitches per minute.
  5. For standard rayon, begin near 600–700 stitches per minute with a fresh 75/11 embroidery needle.
  6. Use water-soluble topping only on terry, velvet or another raised surface.
  7. After stitching, support the embroidery while removing tear-away backing; trim permanent cut-away with rounded corners.

Do not compensate for puckering by sharply increasing upper tension. Puckering is more often caused by insufficient stabilization, stretched hooping, excessive speed or fabric movement. Change one variable at a time after a complete test.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many designs are included?

The set contains two different damask crown ornaments. Each ornament is supplied in two prepared sizes, giving four design-size combinations in every listed format.

Do the designs fit a 5x7 hoop?

The 76.0x178.0 mm and 71.1x177.9 mm files fit a true 130x180 mm embroidery field, but clearance is tight. The two 218.6 mm files require at least a 140x220 mm usable field and do not fit a standard 5x7 hoop.

Will the large files fit every 140x220 mm machine?

Not necessarily. The 218.6 mm length leaves only 1.4 mm of total clearance in a nominal 220 mm field. Check the exact maximum design dimensions in the machine manual because some models reserve a safety margin.

Which thread gives the most luxurious gold finish?

Madeira FS Metallic No. 40, 985-4004 Gold 4 gives a warm reflective finish. Gunold METY No. 7004 Dark Gold creates a quieter aged-gilt look. For silky shine without metallic construction, use Sulky Rayon 40 No. 0523 Autumn Gold.

Which stabilizers should I use on a terry towel?

Use Madeira Cotton Soft 60 tear-away under dense terry and Madeira Avalon 20 μm water-soluble topping above the loops. If the embroidery sits entirely on a smooth woven towel band, topping is usually unnecessary.

Can I stitch the ornaments in white or silver?

Yes. White-on-white creates an understated hotel finish, while silver works well on white, charcoal, navy and cool gray textiles. The digital design is not locked to the gold colors shown in styling examples.

Can the files be resized?

Use one of the two supplied sizes whenever possible. Strong percentage scaling can change stitch length, density, pull compensation and the shape of narrow scrollwork. A substantially different size requires professional stitch recalculation rather than simple stretching.

May I sell items embroidered with these designs?

Yes. Finished physical items may be sold within the Royal Present Embroidery license. The digital machine embroidery files themselves may not be copied, shared, traded, uploaded or resold.

What is included in the ZIP archive?

The archive contains the four design-size combinations in DST, JEF, PEC, VIP, HUS, PES, EXP, SEW, DAT, XXX and VP3 formats. Select the size and file type supported by your embroidery machine before transferring it.
