Check the real embroidery field of your hoop before choosing the size. The smaller design is almost 100 mm wide, so it may be tight for some 4x4 hoops if the machine does not allow stitching close to the hoop edge. The larger design is about 129 mm wide, so check your 5x7 or larger hoop carefully and leave enough fabric around the design for safe hooping.
For napkins and table runners, pre-wash the fabric if the finished item will be washed later. Cotton and linen can shrink, and shrinkage after embroidery may distort the star. Press the fabric before hooping, hoop it firmly without stretching, and keep the grain straight so the star does not look tilted after stitching.
This red star is a strong holiday motif for projects that need a clear Christmas accent. It is especially suitable for table textiles because the shape is visible, festive and easy to repeat across a set of napkins or placemats.

For cotton, linen, gabardine and stable woven fabrics, use a medium tear-away or cutaway stabilizer. For table runners, placemats and pillow covers, cutaway stabilizer gives better long-term support if the item will be washed or used often. For napkins, a clean tear-away can work well if the fabric is stable and the hooping is firm.
For towels, waffle fabric, velvet, fleece or textured fabric, add a water-soluble topper on the front. This prevents stitches from sinking into the fabric and helps the star details stay crisp. If the fabric is slippery, use temporary spray adhesive or basting stitches to stop shifting during embroidery.
Red thread looks best when the fabric does not show through the stitches. On white or light fabric, use a good-quality red embroidery thread and test the design first. On dark fabric, place a matching stabilizer or use thread colors with enough contrast so the star remains visible.
If you want extra Christmas sparkle, use metallic thread only for selected details, not necessarily for the whole design. Metallic thread works better with a metallic needle, slower machine speed and reduced upper thread tension if your machine allows it. This helps reduce thread breaks and keeps the decorative shine clean.
Do not stretch napkin or table runner fabric while hooping. Stretching can cause puckering after the design is removed from the hoop. Hoop the stabilizer and fabric together when possible. If the item is too thick or already finished, float the fabric over hooped stabilizer and secure it with basting stitches.
For a set of napkins, mark the placement with a removable fabric marker or a printed template before stitching. Keep the same distance from the edge on every piece. This makes the finished set look professional and avoids uneven placement across the table.

The smaller size is 99.1x98.8 mm, so it is very close to a 100x100 mm hoop limit. Check your machine’s usable embroidery field before stitching. If your machine needs extra margin near the hoop edge, choose a larger hoop.
Use the correct stabilizer, hoop the fabric without stretching, and test stitch before working on the final item. For thin cotton or linen, add enough stabilizer support because this design has a noticeable stitch count.
For stable cotton or linen napkins, use medium tear-away stabilizer. If the napkin fabric is thin or soft, use lightweight cutaway or add an extra layer of tear-away to reduce distortion.
