Where to Use the Cute Skull Design

  • Baby bib: place the design in the lower center, leaving enough space around the neckline and binding.
  • Denim jacket: embroider it on a chest pocket, sleeve, shoulder or as a small back accent.
  • Backpack or school bag: use it as a playful gothic detail for a child or teenager.
  • Pencil case or cosmetic bag: embroider the fabric before assembling the accessory.
  • Fabric patch: stitch the design on felt or embroidery twill and sew the finished patch onto clothing.
  • Dog clothing: use it on a bandana, coat or sweatshirt, choosing soft backing for the reverse side.

Recommended Madeira Thread Colors

The product page does not publish the original machine color chart. The table below is a recommended Madeira Classic Rayon 40 palette based on the displayed sample. It is not the original digitizer’s color sequence.

Color Madeira number Color name Design segment
1071 Baby’s Breath White Main skull and crossbones fill
1151 Silver Moon Gray Skull shadows and dimensional details
1120 Baby Pink Bow highlights and lighter pink areas
1309 Dahlia Pink Main bow fill and dark pink accents
1007 Amber Black Eye sockets, nose, outlines and final details

Madeira Classic Rayon 40 produces a glossy surface and makes the pink bow look brighter. For bibs, pet clothing and other items that will be washed frequently, equivalent Madeira Polyneon 40 colors may provide better resistance to repeated laundering and abrasion.

Stabilizer Selection

Stabilizer Type and weight Recommended use Removal
Madeira Cotton Soft Tear-away, 50 g/m² (1.47 oz/yd²) Stable cotton, non-stretch denim, canvas, felt and embroidery twill Tears away cleanly. Hold the stitches while removing it.
Madeira Cotton Stable Iron-on tear-away, 50 g/m² (1.47 oz/yd²) Light jersey, T-shirts and fabrics that may shift or stretch during hooping The light fusible coating releases without leaving heavy adhesive residue.
Madeira Cotton Fix Self-adhesive tear-away, 50 g/m² (1.47 oz/yd²) Finished bibs, pockets, collars and small items that are difficult to hoop Peel and tear away carefully after embroidery.
Madeira Super Strong Cut-away, 80 g/m² (2.36 oz/yd²) Stretch dog clothing, sweatshirts, knit garments and densely stitched patches Trim carefully around the design; the remaining stabilizer provides permanent support.

How to Embroider It on a Baby Bib

  1. If possible, embroider the front fabric before the bib is assembled. This keeps seams and binding away from the hoop.
  2. For stable woven cotton, hoop the fabric with one layer of Madeira Cotton Soft 50 g/m² (1.47 oz/yd²).
  3. For a finished bib that cannot be hooped, hoop Madeira Cotton Fix and place the bib on its adhesive surface.
  4. If the bib has a terry or textured surface, place water-soluble film on top so the small details do not sink between the loops.
  5. Use a 75/11 embroidery needle and make a test stitch on similar fabric.
  6. After embroidery, cover the reverse side with a soft fusible embroidery backing so that thread ends do not rub against the child’s skin.

How to Make a Fabric Patch

  1. Choose non-fraying felt or embroidery twill as the patch base.
  2. Hoop the base with Madeira Cotton Soft or Madeira Super Strong, depending on the firmness of the fabric.
  3. Embroider the design and remove it from the hoop.
  4. Cut the felt approximately 2–3 mm (about 1/8") outside the embroidered outline without cutting the stitches.
  5. Attach the patch by sewing around the edge. For a heat-applied patch, add heat-seal film only after the embroidery is complete.
  6. For children’s clothing and frequently washed items, sewing the patch provides a more durable attachment than temporary fabric glue.

Adhesive tip: apply temporary spray adhesive only to the stabilizer and spray it away from the embroidery machine. Excess adhesive can collect on the needle, thread path and hook area. A self-adhesive stabilizer is cleaner for small finished items.

Important Embroidery Tips

  • Do not stretch jersey, sweatshirt fabric or pet clothing while hooping.
  • Use a sharp 75/11 or 80/12 needle for denim and a ballpoint 75/11 embroidery needle for knit fabric.
  • Keep the embroidery foot clear of bib straps, backpack linings, pockets and garment seams.
  • Make a test stitch before embroidering an expensive finished item.
  • Do not resize the file extensively in ordinary embroidery software. Changing the dimensions without recalculating the stitches can affect density, underlay and outline registration.
