CF-FC is a digital machine embroidery duogram formed from connected C and F initials. Open blue stripes reveal the fabric underneath, while solid blue areas, balanced scrollwork and a fine black outline keep the letters easy to read. The monogram can be used as CF or FC. The ZIP contains 3 ready-to-stitch sizes for 80x80 mm (3x3") hoops and larger. It is a good choice for linen napkins, towels, handkerchiefs, cuffs, shirt pockets and small textile accessories. This listing is for a digital file, not a finished item.

Before stitching, load the selected size into the machine and run its trace function. For a finished item, print the chosen size at 100% first; the paper placement lets you check the clearance around the outer scrolls before hooping.

Where to Use the CF-FC Duogram

This vertical monogram is useful when initials should be visible without covering the whole item. The smallest file works on a handkerchief corner, a cuff or a pocket. Use the middle size on a breakfast napkin or guest towel. The largest is suitable for a pillow corner, cosmetic bag or bath towel.

The striped areas intentionally show part of the base fabric. They look crisp on pale linen and more subtle on dark fabric. If you are stitching a personalised order, confirm whether the initials should be read as CF or FC before marking the fabric.

Madeira Classic Thread Chart

The original color chart lists two Madeira Classic colors: blue 1335 and black 1006. There is one thread change between them.

Block Color Madeira Classic What it stitches
1
1335 blue letter sections and the open striped fill
2
1006 the outline and the lines separating the C and F overlap
Thread order: 1335 → 1006. This is two colors and one thread change. When substituting another brand, choose comparable machine embroidery thread weights and make a test stitch-out first.

Companion Two-Letter Monograms

These four designs make coordinated monogrammed towel, napkin or wedding-textile sets.

Fabric, Stabilizer & Test Stitching

A starting calculation. As a practical starting point, use a stabilizer that is about one third of the fabric weight: for 180 g/m² fabric, start near 60 g/m² stabilizer. Test on a matching scrap because fine linen may need less support, while soft open-weave fabric needs an additional stabilizing layer.

Smooth cotton and firm linen. Hoop the fabric with Madeira Cotton Soft 9436, Sulky Tear-Easy or a similar tear-away stabilizer. Keep the grain straight rather than stretching the fabric diagonally; the stripes inside the C make distortion easy to see.

Open-weave linen. Fuse a lightweight support to the wrong side first, then use tear-away stabilizer in the hoop. This combination supports the fabric without turning the finished napkin stiff.

Ready-made napkins, pockets and sleeves. Madeira Cotton Fix 9439 is useful here: hoop only the adhesive stabilizer, expose the adhesive area and position the item on top. Check that no second layer of the item is under the needle.

Textured and high-pile fabric. On terry cloth, velour or fleece, place Madeira Avalon Film or Sulky Solvy on top. The water-soluble topping keeps the black outline and the horizontal lines from sinking into the pile.

Needle and tension. Start with a new 75/11 embroidery needle and 40 wt thread; an 80/12 needle can suit especially dense towelling. If the fabric ripples, check hooping and upper-thread tension before adding a light stabilizer layer — do not resize the design.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why can the initials be read as both CF and FC?

The letters are built as a shared two-initial duogram, so either reading may suit the owner. For a couple or family order, show a paper template before you stitch the finished textile.

How many thread changes does this design have?

One. Stitch blue Madeira Classic 1335 first, then change once to black Madeira Classic 1006. The file uses two colors only.

May I use different blue and black shades?

Yes, provided they are suitable machine embroidery threads of a comparable weight. Keep a clear contrast between the main color and the outline; otherwise the initials lose definition. Test the chosen pairing on the same fabric first.

Can I embroider it on a ready-made terry towel?

Yes. Use stabilizer underneath and Madeira Avalon Film or Sulky Solvy on top. Remove the topping according to its instructions after stitching so the fine black outline remains visible above the pile.

How should I place the monogram on a napkin corner?

Fold the napkin as it will be used and mark the visible corner. Place a full-scale printout over the fabric, keeping the outer scrolls clear of hems and folds, then attach the napkin to adhesive stabilizer.

Can I make one of the files smaller or larger?

No. Resizing is prohibited. Do not scale the file in the embroidery machine or editing software; use one of the three supplied sizes. Royal Present is not responsible for stitch density, outline shape, striped fill or the final result after independent resizing.

How do I open the purchased design?

Download the ZIP archive, unzip it and select only the format used by your machine. Copy the individual design file to USB, not the ZIP archive itself or the complete folder of formats.
