This Halloween bunny stands inside a carved pumpkin costume with a candy pouch at its side. An oak-leaf wreath, twig, grass and fallen leaves frame the tall composition. It works well on an apron, a sturdy tote panel, a sweatshirt, or a decorative cushion cover.
This is a digital machine embroidery design, not a finished product. Each size is supplied as a separate file for a compatible embroidery machine.

Placement and stabilization
The motif is tall and asymmetric. Print a template at 100% scale, mark the vertical center, then run a trace before stitching. The twig and candy pouch extend beyond the pumpkin, so position the full outline rather than centering the pumpkin alone. Keep it clear of seams, pockets, zippers and finished edges.
For stable woven cotton or linen, begin with a medium tear-away backing such as Madeira Cotton Soft. A practical starting point for total backing support is fabric weight divided by 3: 180 g/m², about 5.3 oz/yd², of fabric needs roughly 60 g/m², about 1.8 oz/yd², of support. For loose linen, canvas, knitwear, or a panel that shifts in the hoop, use a medium cut-away backing such as Gunold Stiffy 2040 Cut Away.
Frequently asked questions
How do I place the complete scene accurately on a tote or apron front?
Print the template at 100% scale and place it on the item before hooping. Mark only the vertical center and the center of the whole composition, then use the machine trace. Do not center from the pumpkin alone: the twig on one side and the candy pouch on the other shift the full outline.
How do I prepare linen or cotton so the pumpkin fill does not pucker after washing?
Prewash or steam-shrink any fabric that may contract, then dry and press it flat. Hoop the fabric and backing together without stretching either layer. The dense pumpkin fill needs a fabric that is already stable; a stretched fabric can relax after it leaves the hoop and pull the stitches inward.
Can I embroider it on a sweatshirt or another knit item?
Yes. Use medium cut-away backing, such as Gunold Stiffy 2040 Cut Away, and hoop the knit in its natural relaxed state. If a raised surface could swallow the bunny's face or leaf outlines, add Sulky Solvy water-soluble topping above the fabric. Support the rest of the garment while it stitches so its weight cannot pull on the hoop.
How can I reduce hoop marks on natural linen?
Do not leave the linen tightened in the hoop before or after stitching. Remove it promptly, lay the item flat, and steam lightly from the reverse through a pressing cloth without crushing the embroidery. If the linen marks easily, use a light coat of Gunold KK 100 on the backing to hold layers together instead of over-tightening the hoop.
