Where to embroider the Venetian Carnival gnome

How to embroider the design on linen
- Prewash, dry and press natural linen before embroidery because it may shrink during the first laundering.
- Hoop the linen together with the stabilizer. The fabric must be smooth and secure without being stretched.
- Use a 75/11 or 80/12 embroidery needle with 40-weight rayon or polyester embroidery thread.
- Begin at approximately 600–700 stitches per minute. Reduce the speed to approximately 500–600 stitches per minute for the face, mask, small costume details and final black outlines.
- For loose linen, use a permanent cut-away stabilizer. Removing tear-away from loosely woven linen can pull or distort the fabric threads.
- Stitch a complete test on a scrap of the same linen before embroidering the finished project.
The design includes layered fills, narrow decorative elements and final outlines. Correct stabilization is important because fabric movement can shift the black outline away from the face, mask and costume details.

Always compare the selected file with the actual embroidery field supported by your machine. Use one of the four prepared files instead of scaling a stitch file extensively. Excessive resizing can affect fill density, satin-column width and alignment of the small facial details.

Use embroidery-rated pressure-sensitive stabilizer rather than an unmarked craft adhesive. Excess spray adhesive in the needle path can collect lint and leave residue on the needle and machine parts.
Quality-control checklist
- Make a complete test stitch on the same fabric and stabilizer intended for the final project.
- Check the alignment of the face, mask, golden trim and final black outline.
- Do not skip the second Madeira Classic 1309 segment; it adds pink details after the golden decoration.
- If the final outline shifts, check the hooping and stabilization before changing thread tension.
- For bags and frequently laundered textiles, matching 40-weight polyester thread may be used instead of rayon.
