A useful starting point for stable, non-stretch fabric is to choose a stabilizer weighing approximately one-third of the fabric weight. Loosely woven linen and soft apron fabrics may require stronger support regardless of their fabric weight.

The design uses 16 unique Madeira Classic 40 colors in 20 embroidery steps with 19 thread changes. Several colors appear at different stages. Do not combine the repeated color stops because other design elements are embroidered between them.

Important: thread colors shown on a monitor are approximate. Use the Madeira thread numbers and a physical thread chart when exact color matching is required.
How to embroider the design on a kitchen apron
- Prewash and press the apron or fabric if it may shrink.
- Try on the apron or position it on a dress form to determine the visual center of the bib.
- Check that the design will not overlap a seam, fold, apron tie or pocket opening.
- Fuse Madeira Cotton Stable 50 g/m² (1.5 oz/yd²) to the wrong side or use Madeira Cotton Fix for an item that cannot be hooped conventionally.
- Hoop the fabric and stabilizer together without stretching or distorting the grain.
- Run a test stitch on similar fabric. Pay particular attention to registration around the pizza toppings, hands, beard and final black outlines.
- After embroidery, remove the stabilizer carefully and press the item from the wrong side over a soft towel.
Practical machine embroidery tips
- Use a 75/11 embroidery needle for regular cotton and an 80/12 embroidery needle for dense linen, canvas or denim.
- Embroider at approximately 600–700 stitches per minute. Reduce the speed to approximately 500–600 stitches per minute for the final outlines.
- Madeira Classic 40 rayon provides a glossy decorative finish, but rayon is not the most practical choice for commercial aprons exposed to bleach or aggressive stain removers.
- For pizzeria uniforms, restaurant towels and frequently washed kitchen textiles, polyester embroidery thread #40 is more resistant to abrasion, grease stains and intensive laundering.
- Do not combine repeated color stops. The sequence is structured so that separate details overlap and register correctly.
- Apply temporary spray adhesive only to the stabilizer and away from the embroidery machine. Do not spray near the hook, needle bar or electronic sensors.
- When embroidering an oven mitt or pot holder, complete the embroidery before assembly and keep it outside the main heat-contact and gripping areas.
- Always test the design on the same fabric with the same thread, needle and stabilizer intended for the final project.
