The design was made using the WATERCOLOR technique. That means it has a lot of very light stitches, and you can see the fabric through them.

We recommend using a very thin thread for the black outline. If you don’t have such thread, you can use bobbin thread instead!

The Portrait Pocket Yorkie Dog machine embroidery design is perfect for stitching on the pockets of T-shirts, adding a stylish and playful touch to your clothing. It comes in four different sizes, making it easy to choose the one that best fits your project. This design works wonderfully on thicker knit T-shirts to ensure the embroidery stays smooth and holds its shape.

Fabric for Embroidery on T-Shirts
For the best results, it’s recommended to choose T-shirts made from thick cotton knit fabric with a weight of at least 180-200 g/m² (5.3-5.9 oz/yd²). Cotton knit of this weight provides enough strength, minimizes stretching, and maintains the integrity of the embroidery, ensuring it looks neat even after washing.

Knit Fabric Weave Types:
Knit fabric used for T-shirts has a specific weave that provides elasticity and softness. For embroidery, it is recommended to use fabrics like interlock or single jersey because they provide a dense, even surface for stitching.

  • Interlock – This is a double-sided, tightly woven fabric that doesn’t stretch as much as other knits and provides an excellent base for machine embroidery.
  • Single Jersey – This is a lighter weave, but still dense enough to support embroidery work.

Using Stabilizers for Embroidery on Knit Fabrics

Due to the elasticity of knit fabrics, it's important to use the right stabilizers to avoid fabric distortion and ensure the stitches don’t sink into the fabric.

Main Stabilizer (for the backside of the fabric):
For knit T-shirts, it's recommended to use a self-adhesive tear-away stabilizer with a weight of 60-80 g/m² (1.8-2.3 oz/yd²).

  • Example: Gunold Filmoplast 80 g/m². This stabilizer prevents the fabric from shifting and keeps it securely in place during embroidery.
  • The advantage of self-adhesive stabilizer is that it can be used without hooping the fabric itself, which minimizes the risk of stretching or distorting the knit.

Top Stabilizer (Topping):
To prevent stitches from sinking into the soft knit, especially if the fabric has a loose structure, it's recommended to use a water-soluble stabilizer (topping).

  • Example: Sulky Solvy or Gunold Solvy. This thin film is placed on top of the fabric before stitching, ensuring that the stitches remain on the surface and don't "disappear" into the fabric.

How to Properly Prepare the Fabric for Embroidery:

  • Secure the T-shirt to the self-adhesive stabilizer, smoothing out the fabric to avoid wrinkles.
  • Place the water-soluble topping on top of the area to be embroidered, especially if the fabric has a fluffy or loose structure. This helps ensure that the stitches lie flat on the surface.
  • Ensure that the hoop is not too tight, as over-tightening can leave marks and cause distortion in the knit fabric.

Embroidery Recommendations for the "PPortrait Pocket Yorkie Dog" Design on T-Shirts

  • Needle Choice: For knits, it’s best to use a ballpoint needle (75/11). This type of needle gently pushes the fibers aside without tearing them, allowing the stitches to lie smoothly.
  • Embroidery Speed: Lower the speed of the embroidery machine to 500-600 stitches per minute to prevent stretching of the fabric and ensure precise stitch placement.
  • Fabric Color: The design will look its best on light-colored fabrics, especially white T-shirts, where the bright details of the embroidery will stand out beautifully.

Conclusion
By following all of these recommendations and using the right stabilizers, the Portrait Pocket Yorkie Dog machine embroidery design will look professional and neat. Be sure to use a self-adhesive stabilizer, water-soluble topping, and ballpoint needles for the perfect embroidery result on knit fabrics.
