Color-block sequence: 1007 → 1051 → 1146 → 1004 → 1140 → 1007.
Important: the dark oval centers inside the eyes are not an additional thread color. The black base fabric remains visible through these open areas.
For Isacord, Sulky, Brother and other thread brands, use the Madeira thread converter. The converter provides the nearest available match, not a guaranteed identical shade.
Fabric and Stabilizer
Use stable black woven fabric for the front, approximately 140–220 g/m² (4.1–6.5 oz/yd²). Cotton, twill, gabardine or firm satin are suitable starting choices. For the back, choose smooth cotton sateen or soft lining fabric around 100–160 g/m² (3–4.7 oz/yd²).
For stable cotton, begin with a medium tear-away stabilizer around 50–60 g/m². For thin, slippery or soft fabric, use a soft cut-away or no-show mesh around 35–50 g/m². Hoop the fabric and stabilizer together without stretching them.
- Use a 75/11 embroidery needle for standard cotton or an 80/12 needle for firmer fabric.
- Stitch the filled areas at approximately 600–700 stitches per minute.
- A dark bobbin thread makes the final construction seam less noticeable.
- Avoid thick fleece or high-pile fabric because it can cover the open eye details.
ITH Assembly
- Stabilize and hoop the black front fabric.
- Embroider the green face, red eye band and white eye areas in the programmed order.
- When the design reaches the final construction stage, stop the machine and position the ends of the elastic or ties at the side attachment points.
- Keep the loose lengths toward the center of the mask and away from the final seam. Secure them temporarily if necessary.
- Place the second piece of black fabric over the embroidered front with right sides together.
- Complete the remaining technical stitching and final joining outline.
- Trim the excess fabric, leaving approximately 3–4 mm around the seam. Clip the curves without cutting the stitching.
- Turn the mask right side out, shape the curved edges and close the opening with a ladder stitch.
Practical tip: before stitching the final contour, turn the machine handwheel through the first two or three stitches. This confirms that the needle will not strike the elastic and that the loose strap is clear of the stitch path.
Frequently Asked Questions
What type of elastic works best?
Use soft lingerie elastic approximately 8–12 mm wide. Check the required length around the wearer’s head before assembly. Elastic that is too short will create pressure, while loose elastic will not hold the mask securely.
How can I make the inside comfortable against the face?
Use smooth cotton sateen or soft lining fabric for the back. Keep the elastic joins and raw ends enclosed between the two fabric layers.
Can metallic thread be used for the red eye band?
The red section contains a relatively large filled area, so rayon or polyester is more practical. If metallic thread is used, choose a Metallic 80/12 or 90/14 needle, allow the thread to feed freely and reduce the speed to approximately 400–500 stitches per minute. Test the complete color block first.
Can the ITH file be resized?
Standard software scaling is not recommended. Resizing can alter stitch lengths, strap positions, seam allowances and the final construction outline.
This is a digital machine embroidery file. A finished sleep mask, fabric, thread and other physical materials are not included.

This is abnice design and exactly what was wanted. The only problem I had with this design is that there were some stictching missing a small areal but noticable in the largest size I ran back over it with the machine again and it skipped the same stitches twice it was on the hand that is most forward on the wrist band .not a huge problem I just coloured it in with a sharpie. No problem. It looked great on the back of a Jean Jacket I would post a pic but there is no place on the review to do that.
