Each skeleton is a one-color design. White rayon thread creates a bright, glossy contrast on black, charcoal, burgundy, purple or dark green fabric. For an aged-bone effect, Super White can be replaced with ivory or warm cream thread without changing the embroidery sequence.

Choosing a stabilizer

How to embroider the skeletons on a sweatshirt

1. Wash and dry the sweatshirt before embroidery if the garment may shrink.
2. Print or open the design templates and mark the center of each skeleton. When stitching all three figures, check the entire arrangement before hooping the first section.
3. Fuse a 1.5 oz/yd² no-show mesh or PolyMesh cut-away stabilizer to the wrong side. Do not stretch the sweatshirt while pressing or hooping.
4. Use a #75/11 embroidery needle with 40 wt rayon or polyester embroidery thread. A ballpoint embroidery needle may be preferable for soft knitted fabric.
5. Embroider at approximately 600–700 stitches per minute. Reduce the speed if the fabric begins to move or the narrow details do not remain aligned.
6. After stitching, trim the cut-away stabilizer approximately 1/4 inch from the embroidery. Round the corners so the backing remains comfortable inside the garment.

Useful machine embroidery facts

• Do not replace permanent cut-away stabilizer with tear-away when embroidering a stretchy T-shirt or sweatshirt. The stitches need permanent support after washing and wearing.
• A fusible no-show mesh holds the whole embroidery area evenly and avoids the sticky residue that excessive temporary spray adhesive can leave on the needle and inside the machine.
• When positioning three separate skeletons, use printed templates or the machine’s precise-positioning function. Do not judge the spacing only by the hoop edge.
• White viscose rayon produces a brighter sheen, while white polyester is preferable for frequently washed garments and items exposed to bleach or harsh detergents.
• Test the selected size on a fabric sample with the same stabilizer and thread before embroidering the finished garment. Avoid resizing the machine files unless the stitch properties are recalculated in embroidery software.
